Miami Tri Events is proud to announce for the fourth consecutive year, that the 2013 Indianapolis 500 and the 2004 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series Championship winner, Tony Kanaan, will be participating in the City Bikes IRONMAN® 70.3 Miami 2013 event on October 27. The race will take place at Miami’s tourism landmark of Bayfront Park.
“We are so excited to have Tony Kanaan with us this year, he is both an amazing race car driver and triathlete,” said Wilber Anderson, CEO at Miami Tri Events.
Kanaan has been a fan favorite since his breakout win at the 1994 Formula Europa Boxer race for Cram Competition, at the tender age of 12. It was evident from the start that Kanaan was a force to be reckoned with. Throughout the years, Kanaan has managed to keep motor racing fans motivated by proving over and over that he is one of the best at what he does: with over 225 runs, 15 victories, 14 pole-positions and 2 titles.
Kanaan continues to push boundaries as he gracefully executed a cross-over from Indy race-car driver to becoming an IRONMAN®. In 2010, Kanaan completed his first IRONMAN® 70.3 event in Miami, demonstrating that anything is possible when the correct mindset is in place.
He has been vocal about the impact that training for triathlons has had in his life. He applies his skill and focus – required to drive at high speeds – and translates it into the high concentration and endurance needed to complete a triathlon. Kanaan has continued to train and in 2011 he conquered a goal set by many. He was fortunate enough to complete the IRONMAN® World Championship in Kona, Hawai’i, with a time of 12:52:40.
This year’s City Bikes IRONMAN® 70.3 Miami will be yet another milestone for Kanaan. For the fourth consecutive year, he will take on the challenge of completing a half IRONMAN®. He will be setting off with a 1.2 mile swim in the protected ocean waters of Downtown Miami. The one-loop, 56-mile bike course will take him through the scenic communities of Miami towards the Everglades. The 13.1-mile run course will lead Kanaan alongside the waters of Miami and through one of the most popular and beautiful ports around the world – The Port of Miami.
“Miami is the best city in the whole world,” said Kanaan during an interview for the IRONMAN® 70.3 Miami Press Conference.
“I live in Miami. I could live anywhere; but nowhere compares to the weather, the people, the party or just relaxing by the beach. IRONMAN® 70.3 Miami adds so much life to the city. If you like racing, if you like triathlons this is the race to be seen at.”
Wilber Anderson, CEO at Miami Tri Events, organizer of the City Bikes IRONMAN® 70.3 Miami added, “We are honored to have Tony Kanaan, a race car legend, be a part of the event. He is a multitalented athlete proving that there are no boundaries for an IRONMAN®.”
